I spent some time today listening to the music of OM SHANTI OM and SAAWARIYA. I can’t really do a “music review” so I am going to just share my likes and dislikes.
Om Shanti Om
I was disappointed, very disappointed. I was expecting it to be better than Main Hoon Na also but I guess the very retro theme of the movie has impacted the music and it didn’t seem to have a very modern flavour. Except for Ajab si and Dard-e-disco the rest were almost skip able tracks. Deewangi Deewangi takes a bit of time to start liking although I liked the intro instrumental which they’ve been playing in the trailors too. If you listen to Dastaan-E you’ll find a similarity to some songs of Subhash Ghai’s Karz.
Saawariya
The music is a treat to the ears if you enjoy nice, soft, sensual numbers. Soulful songs with some good voice put in by a bunch of new singer I suppose. You’ll be humming the title song in no time and it’s nice. Jab se tere naina and Masha Allah are two other songs which I picked as favourites. Pari sounds very inspired by the music of Devdas. I believe this movie is going to do a lot better audio sales compared to the SRK’s flick.
