Great advances in technology has made digital photography cheaper and affordable for many. Memory cards come cheap and we just click click and more click. And thanks to the digital format we no longer visit the photo shop to bring back prints and share it with family and friends. My dad hates this bit – he likes to see photos printed because then you see the best and selected few. But I never managed to get many of my digital photos printed – call me lazy.

As a year end special photo printing service Zoomin had a great “Deal of the Day”. I took advantage of the offer and got some shots printed to evaluate the quality and service offered by them. First set of prints came in a bit delayed thanks to the mega response they had to the special offers, but I am pretty happy with the results.

I could have done better on the high ISO shots – but then sometimes all that noise in the photo gives it a great effect. Hopefully I should be getting some more prints for the long pending coffee table photo book I have been planing.

Snapshots from Diwali

A few photos from our Diwali Celebrations. The star lantern is my favourite. I love the way I was able to get the reflection.

Diwali gets even more exciting depending on the number of gifts which come to your house. This year I decided to get kiddy and opened up all the gifts at home. Nothing exciting for me but the ladies seemed to like the stuff which came in. While on gifting I remembered the lovely Cadbury Celebrations – Tohfa ad which was recently aired a little before Diwali just to remind people that how personalized gifts mean a lot.

Around the Diwali time we also celebrate a little ritual called “ankut“. This is another version of “chappan bhog” which means 56 dishes are prepared and served to the lord that afternoon. You end up eating a lot and by the end of it your stomach has no place for even a glass of water to end the meal. There is a complete meal of rice, kadi, dahi, papad, mithais, fried wafers, sharbat, kheerni and a lot of other nuggets.

The first Mumbai Photo Marathon 2007 was a success. We had 18 participants who traveled across from Juhu beach to Gateway of India capturing some of the most lovely shots of people, places and nature. Of course our themes for the event were set as:

Sunday Shoot

Sunday was a busy day. I had to overview a client photo shoot which my agency was doing for a recently launched international bank in India. We shot across 3 locations and the first shot was to be captured at PDP Gardens. It was about 9 in the morning when the photographer gave the models a green signal to walk up to the location for the shot. Just then God decided to open up his arms and shower us with some very very unseasonal rains.

I think for about 30 minutes all of us were in a soup, wondering what would happen of the shoot, if it did pour a full shower. I mean imagine what would we tell our offices on Monday morning – we cancelled because of rains in the month of April in Mumbai. Anyways, all settled down real quick and we managed to do a good job that day.

Not wanting to miss out on some outdoor photography, I clicked some snaps too which I share at my flickr, as always. Don’t you think this is an interesting photograph of that old man looking deep into the vastness of the sea.
